Congrads! You’ve made it this far to achieve this milestone. Now, all that’s left to do is to get memorable photos of it! Think about your friends and family who’ll carry around your grad photo in their wallet–now this you need to look good for. Here are some tips from our expert grad photographers.

Tip #1 - Outfits

The gown usually has a deep v-neck line. So ladies, please wear a v-neck shirt or tank top so it’s not visible from under the gown. Some jewelry is also a nice touch. If you added professional photos to your session, bring a suit, dress or anything you’d wear to look business-y!

Gentlemen, a shirt and tie is always a classic look. Search up your program and faculty if you’d like to coordinate the colours. A bowtie is also a timeless look!

Tip #2 - Hairstyles/Facial hair

Think about your favourite look–the one you would pick on any good hair day and go with it! Try not to stray too far off if you’d like to try something a little different. Remember–your grad photos should capture you and your personality. Don’t stress yourself by thinking you need to look ‘perfect.’ Perfect in terms of grad photos means being the self you’re most comfortable with.

If you prefer a shaved face, a light stubble is always visible in photos. Shave carefully before your grad session. If you prefer facial hair, make sure to comb it before your session so you look fresh!

Tip #3 - Makeup

Light and fresh daytime makeup always looks great–from a graduation camera’s perspective. Stick with the look you’re more familiar and comfortable with. Use a little bit of loose powder to touch-up shiny areas, or some concealer to cover up any blemishes. If you use foundation, go with the best kind that matches your neck so you have a smooth transition between your face and neck. If you don’t normally wear false eyelashes and are going with them, keep in mind they sometimes weigh down your eyes which might make you look a little sleepy in your photos. Again, go with what you’re comfortable with!

Tip #4 - Props

If you have a Classic or Plus session, bring a prop! Props can be a true reflection of who you are and are always welcome. Some popular ones grads bring in are jerseys, books. Diplomas, musical instruments, sports gear and more! We provide fresh roses, a scroll, grad cap and nursing syringes, scrub tops and nursing caps (if you added it to your session).

Tip #5 - Poses
